About Thorunn Kristjansdottir

Thorunn Kristjansdottir is the principal, editor, publisher and designer of Main Street Magazine. She founded the magazine in January of 2013, because she found a niche: there wasn’t any magazine specifically for this area. Yes, there were numerous magazines that covered the area, but they also covered everything from Poughkeepsie to Vermont. Thorunn thought that there was a need for a magazine for just this area, featuring stories about the people, businesses, and curiosities that are to be found in this corner of the world. Having done this before (she was the co-creator, editor and publisher of another similar magazine), she went to work to create Main Street Magazine for Millerton and it’s surrounding area in late 2012. A magazine that is high-end in every aspect, from the content, writing and articles to the photographs and advertisements, from the layout to the printing. She strives for perfection at each step of the way.

Teamwork

Since the magazine’s inception almost ten years ago, we have (almost without fail) featured a local business each month to give a glimpse into the ins and outs of that business. These entrepreneurs have been kind enough to share their words of wisdom, business inspirations and drive, as well as their challenges and what they’ve […]

When you think of the quintessential small American town, what comes to mind? Pine Plains, NY, comes to the mind of many. 7 Ways to Achieve Your Resolution

So many of us have in the past, or perhaps not-so-distant past, made New Years resolutions. Many of us have probably failed them too (supposedly only about 12% succeed). I hope more of you have succeeded at them than failed though. But there’s also a reason that gym memberships surge in January, and then slowly […]

Creation Through Inspiration

Over the past 20 years, the Village of Millerton, New York’s commercial Main Street has transformed itself into the Hudson Valley’s epicenter of antique shopping. Despite the populous nature of design-inspired shops in town, Millerton native Charlotte Sheridan, owner of Merwin Farm and Home, has managed to carve out her own unique identity within the […]

Business- Starting or Expanding?

The fabric and backbone of America are its small businesses, and lucky for us, we have an abundance of them in our area. It’s the American dream after all. But when it comes to starting and or expanding a business, the devil is in the details. It is the minutia that can become cumbersome, and […]

How and Why Your Business Should Stand Out

When times get tough (or prosperous) for a business, the first thing to go (in most cases) seems to be marketing. Money gets tight, and the business pulls back all “unnecessary” spending, with any and all forms of advertising being the first on the list. The oxymoron in this scenario however is that this is […]
