Ruffino Pinot Grigio and Mondavi Merlot

Sometimes you just need something simple and straightforward that needs no second-guessing. For me that’s a dependable Pinot Grigio and a classic Merlot. My picks? Ruffino for the Pinot Grigio and Mondavi for the Merlot. These producers have been at it for years and know what they’re doing. You just can’t go wrong with their […]

Ravines Winery Riesling

I read a cute line the other day that has stuck with me for this week’s selection: A crisp white for a fall night. It sounds so inviting, and it’s perfectly suited to harvest season in New York State, where Riesling proliferates. So, Riesling it is, and with pleasure. Get your hands on a bottle […]

Rose Hill Discordia

Fall is upon us and it’s time to celebrate the harvest. I wrote an article on Rose Hill Farm in Red Hook for Main Street several months ago and fell in love with the place. It’s time to return, both to the beautiful farm and to its unique and fruit-forward libations. I’m going to get […]

Plungerhead Old Vine Zinfandel

Well it’s a marvelous weekend for a fire pit gathering, with or without the stars up above in your eyes. (Apologies to Van Morrison’s Moondance.) A delicious fireside wine? It’s gotta be a deep, dark Zinfandel that can hold its own, no food needed. I love the label on the Plungerhead Old Vine Zinfandel from […]

Ruffino Prosecco

Football season is back! That’s cause for celebration in my book, and Prosecco is the perfect pairing for a day of finger foods. One that’s a winner every time, whether you drink it straight or make a Sunday cocktail with it like a mimosa or a bellini, is Ruffino. From the winery that’s been making […]

Marques de Caceres Verdejo

Labor Day weekend already, and the weather is looking good! Let’s not say goodbye to summer yet. In fact, with peaches tasting so delicious right now, it’s the perfect time to kick back with a white sangria. Here’s what you’ll need: 1 bottle of dry white wine, preferably from Spain. The Marques de Caceres Verdejo is […]

Dr. Konstantin Frank, Semi-Dry Riesling

In wondering what wine to feature for this weekend, I went to a website that lists what’s being celebrated nationally on any particular day. Who comes up with these things? Did you know August 19 is Chef’s Appreciation Day? National Sandcastle and Sculpture Day? Coco Chanel Day? And so many more! My wine selection will […]

Veuve Ambal Blanc de Blanc

It’s not easy to impress a fellow bubbly lover with an economically priced bottle, but I did. What’s always most important in a memorable bottle is taste, and this sparkling wine has it, from the first sip to the last. My bubbly snob friend agreed. I gloated. And I have to share.

The wine is French […]
