Lamb-n-Ham Wine

Easter is upon us, and with it the seasonal foods that celebrate the occasion. Eggs play a big part in Easter meals from start to finish – you have to do something with those colored eggs! – and typically the main course is ham or lamb. The wine-pairing juices really start to flow when thinking […]

Brancott Estate Sauvignon Blanc

The saying goes that March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb. Did you know that in New Zealand the ratio of sheep to people is about seven to one? Raise a toast to the lamb with a glass of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Known for its distinctive grapefruit note on the […]

Millbrook Chardonnay

It’s back to the States and the many, many, many wonderful wines made here. I’m settling back in with a local favorite, a ringing-in-spring Chardonnay from Millbrook Winery. Millbrook has been named the Best Hudson Valley Winery for some 20 years. The Chardonnay is made from estate-grown fruit and undergoes partial barrel fermentation and complete […]

Chateau Guillon Graves

Chere amateurs de vin: When you read this post, think of me in Paris, which is where I’ll be. Magnifique! You, too, can transport yourself to France by simply enjoying a glass of French wine. Wild Irish Rose

Wine on St. Patrick’s Day? Buck the beer and whisky and go grape! Which doesn’t mean you can’t drink wine with a nod to the Irish. My choice? Believe it or not, it’s Wild Irish Rose. This is a fortified wine at 17% alcohol by volume (think Port or Sherry), but it has a lovely […]

Sparkling Queen

It’s International Women’s Day and Month, so it’s only fitting that the focus be on women-made wines. Fortunately, that’s not hard to do these days. I found an excellent article from fingerlakeswinecountry.com about many of the women in the Finger Lakes who are making wonderful wines (The Women of Finger Lakes Wine Country). Here […]

Say Aloha to Aloha Tacos

Part of what Main Street Magazine has been delivering every month for the past ten – yes, ten! – years, is fresh and interesting local content. If the magazine were a buffet, it would be all kinds of deliciousness. So here’s another addition to the fresh, exciting, […]

Predator Old Vine Zinfandel

Looks like we’ll be snuggling up against the cold again this weekend. A fine time for wine! Go big with a juicy Zinfandel. Considered a quintessential California grape, it thrives in the Lodi area where it’s grown on vines dating back in many cases to the Prohibition. My pick to pack sunshine and jammy […]
