Millbrook Chardonnay

It’s back to the States and the many, many, many wonderful wines made here. I’m settling back in with a local favorite, a ringing-in-spring Chardonnay from Millbrook Winery. Millbrook has been named the Best Hudson Valley Winery for some 20 years. The Chardonnay is made from estate-grown fruit and undergoes partial barrel fermentation and complete […]

Chateau Guillon Graves

Chere amateurs de vin: When you read this post, think of me in Paris, which is where I’ll be. Magnifique! You, too, can transport yourself to France by simply enjoying a glass of French wine. Classique. My suggestion? A Bordeaux, bien sur. There are many affordable and delicious Bordeauxs available in your favorite wine store, […]

Wild Irish Rose

Wine on St. Patrick’s Day? Buck the beer and whisky and go grape! Which doesn’t mean you can’t drink wine with a nod to the Irish. My choice? Believe it or not, it’s Wild Irish Rose. This is a fortified wine at 17% alcohol by volume (think Port or Sherry), but it has a lovely […]

Sparkling Queen

It’s International Women’s Day and Month, so it’s only fitting that the focus be on women-made wines. Fortunately, that’s not hard to do these days. I found an excellent article from fingerlakeswinecountry.com about many of the women in the Finger Lakes who are making wonderful wines (The Women of Finger Lakes Wine Country). Here […]

Predator Old Vine Zinfandel

Looks like we’ll be snuggling up against the cold again this weekend. A fine time for wine! Go big with a juicy Zinfandel. Considered a quintessential California grape, it thrives in the Lodi area where it’s grown on vines dating back in many cases to the Prohibition. My pick to pack sunshine and jammy […]

Ventoux Vidal-Fleury

I hope everyone had a lovely Valentine’s Day with a wine that suited the occasion. My post-Valentine’s question is always, Why not make more days this special? A meal that you take time to enjoy accompanied by a nice wine and a candle or two is all you need. A wine of choice for me […]

Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir

Super Bowl Sunday is upon us! Wine isn’t usually a beverage associated with football, and I like and appreciate a good beer on game day to wash down salty snacks. But wine does go well with football party foods – including chips, dips, chili, pizza, subs, cocktail franks and all the usual crowd favorites (munchies […]
